Candidate Profile: Peter Milobar
"The Experienced Hand"
The Quick Bio
Peter Milobar is the MLA for Kamloops Centre and currently serves as the Conservative Party’s Finance Critic. With over 20 years in public office, Milobar is one of the most seasoned politicians in the race. Before entering provincial politics in 2017, he served three terms as the Mayor of Kamloops, becoming the longest-serving mayor in the city’s history.
Milobar is known for his deep understanding of municipal and provincial "interstitching"—how Victoria's decisions impact local small businesses and families. He lives in Kamloops with his wife, Lianne, and their three children, where they operate a local small business.
Key Policy Pillars
Fiscal Accountability: As Finance Critic, his campaign focuses on "restoring fiscal discipline" and requiring government ministers to own their performance through clear benchmarks.
Healthcare Reform: Advocating for measurable targets in health authorities to ensure reliable care for regional communities outside the Lower Mainland.
Repealing DRIPA: Milobar has called for the repeal of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, proposing a new legislative framework for reconciliation that provides more economic certainty.
Public Safety: Focuses on "real consequences" for criminal activity and addressing street disorder.
The "Blue Score" Analysis
Strengths: Unrivaled caucus support. On February 25, 2026, he secured endorsements from seven sitting MLAs (Gavin Dew, Scott McInnis, Kiel Giddens, Brennan Day, Linda Hepner, Ian Paton and Ward Stamer). This gives him a massive head start in "ground game" and membership recruitment in those ridings.
The "Establishment" Factor: While his 8-0 election record makes him a "formidable winner," some populist segments of the party view his BC Liberal/United background with skepticism.
Winning Path: Milobar wins if he can successfully position himself as the "Premier-in-waiting"—the candidate most ready to lead a unified party against the NDP on day one.
